It can be divided into three types: series fault, parallel fault and complex fault.
(1) series failure
A series fault (metal defect) refers to a breakdown of one or more conductors (including lead and aluminum outer skin) of a cable. It is a generalized open fault of the cable. The continuity of the cable core is damaged, forming a broken line or incomplete breakage. Incomplete breakage is especially difficult to find. The series fault can be divided into one point of breaking, multi point breaking, one phase broken line and multiphase broken line.
(2) parallel faults
The parallel fault (insulation material defect) refers to the short-circuit fault caused by conductor's insulation level between outer skin or conductor, and can't withstand normal operation voltage. It is a generalized fault of cable short circuit. This kind of fault causes short circuit, grounding, flashover and so on because of the insulation damage between the core or the core of the cable core, and the frequency is higher in the field. Parallel faults can be divided into one phase, two phase grounding, two phase short circuit, and three phase short circuit.
(3) complex fault
